8: the father

This week’s vinyl feature is Father John Mistys new album, I love you. Honeybear. Before posting this I decided to do a little wiki search on the guy. All I knew previously was that he was the drummer for Fleet Foxes, another band I really dig. I had sort of realized I really don't ever know much about the people I listen to.
For the most part my husband is the music man in the house. I have a great love for music (I mean dear god, you must not have a soul if you can't say the same), and have really taken to vinyl recently. There is something about the act of even playing music this way. It makes things that much more personal. There is something about having to care for each record, flipping it from side to side, changing the speed. It's almost like brewing a single cup of coffee in the morning. It's nothing like pressing start on a computer, or coffee machine.
I've been listening to this record for a few weeks now. This specific copy is from a subscription through vinyl me please, a pretty cool record club. Each month a new album is featured, each coming with a special piece of artwork and drink recipe. I fell in love with the sound instantly. There was something so pleasing about all of it from the start. Many times it takes a listen or two to get into something... not this. At first I thought the words were a bit funny, slightly odd. The more I listen to it, the less I think that. I don't know if I’m just forcing it to make sense, or if it really does. The sound is cheerful, and bright. yet the words are anything but. Definitely something I think I'll be spinning quite a bit in the upcoming months.
